A 1971 double album by Isaac Hayes, known for its soulful, lush arrangements, and personal, often emotional, lyrical content, inspired by his recent marriage troubles. The album, which became a massive commercial success, features Hayes' signature style, including his baritone voice, extended arrangements, and innovative cover versions of songs from artists like The Carpenters and The Jackson 5. The title and iconic cover art, which depicts Hayes as a muscular, modern Moses, symbolised Black pride and masculinity, though Hayes initially found the religious comparison sacrilegious.
