Born Thierry Robin in Rochefort-sur-Loire in 1957, Titi Robin has spent four decades forging one of the most distinctive and unclassifiable bodies of work in contemporary music. A master of the buzuq, oud, and guitar, he has traversed the musical landscapes of Brittany, Catalonia, Morocco, and India, not as a collector of exotic sounds, but as a deeply committed artist building his own singular language. His music refuses easy categorisation: rooted in Romani and Mediterranean traditions, it breathes with the logic of polyrhythm, modal improvisation, and an unflinching personal voice. Praised by figures as far-reaching as Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno, Robin has long occupied a rare space between the intimate and the universal.

Lovari — named after a clan of Romani Gypsies — is neither a compilation nor a simple retrospective. Released in May 2026 on the Paris-based Hot Mule label, it is a carefully curated selection that offers a coherent and illuminating perspective on Robin's artistic journey. Tracks such as Kicsi Kicsi Kém - Nu No. 1Ma Gavali Rumba, and Sandhya sit alongside the title piece Lovari and the meditative L'aube Impatiente, each one a world unto itself — recorded across different sessions and geographies, yet bound by Robin's unmistakable sensibility. The album is a testament to a musician who, whether wielding the buzuq or the oud, has never sought to imitate any tradition, but to inhabit them all on his own terms.
