A lovely album where prime instrumental hip hop producer/beatmaker Madlib was given the run of the entire catalogue from prestigious jazz label Blue Note. He was pretty much told 'do what you like' in their heaving shelves. Which as you might possibly be able to imagine was to twist old sounds into exciting, rhythm-heavy shapes. Here on 'Shades Of Blue', Madlib reworks sounds by the likes of Donald Byrd and Horace Silver to stunning effect. A true hip-hop visionary.
